Nutritional Deficit Indicators

Nutrition is a huge aspect of everyone’s lives… especially those with nutritional deficiencies. Whether you pay close attention to what you take in, or you could care less, what you eat or not eat will have an affect on your daily life.

The way in which poor nutrition becomes evident is more commonly through symptoms. We have compiled a list of symptoms to keep an eye out for, as well as the potential nutritional Deficit that may have attributed to the onsets of the symptoms.

FATIGUE

Potential Deficit:

Protein, magnesium, iron, B vitamins, potassium or vitamin C

Potential Causation:

Chronic fatigue syndrome, cardiac failure, anemia, hypothyroidism, or depression

 

COLD INTOLERANCE

Potential Deficit:

Iron (very common)

Potential Causation:

Diminished cardiac activity, anemia, hypothyroidism

 

EASY BRUISING

Potential Deficit:

Vitamin C

Potential Causation:

Blood disorders, physical trauma, age

CRACKING LIPS/CORNERS OF MOUTH

Potential Deficit:

Riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin B12, folate, iron

Potential Causation:

Cheilitis

MOUTH ULCERS

Potential Deficit:

Folate, vitamin B (complex), iron

Potential Causation:

oral diseases, Crohn’s disease, herpes

 

REDNESS TO NOSE

Potential Deficit:

Riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin B6, zinc

Potential Causation:

Dermatitis

WEAK/BRITTLE NAILS

Potential Deficit:

Fatty acids, iron, vitamin E

Potential Causation:

Circulation, age

MUSCULAR PAINS/CRAMPS

Potential Deficit:

Sodium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin B1

Potential Causation:

Neurological disorders/trauma, polymyalgia rheumatica

 

DIFFICULTY SIT-TO-STAND

Potential Deficit:

Vitamin D3

Potential Causation:

Arthritis, associative neurological disorders

 

POOR NIGHT VISION

Potential Deficit:

Vitamin A, zinc, riboflavin (vitamin B2)

Potential Causation:

Optic neuritis, retinal disease

RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME

Potential Deficit:

Iron, folate, magnesium

Potential Causation:

Associative neurological disorders, pregnancy, arthritis

UNSTEADY AMBULATION (WALKING)

Potential Deficit:

Vitamin D3, vitamin B1, Co Q10, vitamin E

Potential Causation:

Associative neurological disorders, hypothyroidism, alternative impairments

DEPRESSION

Potential Deficit:

Vitamin B (complex), vitamin C, biotin, folate

Potential Causation:

Stress, cognitive impairment, physical concerns manifesting as mental stigmas

IRRITABILITY

Potential Deficit:

Folate, vitamin D3

Potential Causation:

Stress, cognitive impairment, physical concerns manifesting as mental stigmas

 

Many of us, despite these symptoms, carry on about our days as if nothing is off, when that can be furthest from the truth. Don’t lie to yourself for the sake of convenience, it may inevitably hinder the rest of your life.

If you feel that many of these symptoms apply to you and you are fearful of what they may lead to, do not hesitate to seek further nutritional advice.
