Candy corn… Super sweet treats! But… how sweet are they really?

Candy corn!

One of Texas’ favorite fall and Halloween treats. This simple confection has received much affection since first coming to the scene in the latter half of the 1800s. Made in the millions and consumed by millions, truly a recognized fall classic!

Now, whether you are a full-blown candy corn lover, or you’re simply acting out your candy fix through these little pieces of yellow, orange, and white goodness, or you just want them to display your sense of festivity, here is something we would like to you at the very least consider:

An average bag of candy corn has about 27g of sugar per serving. That’s only about 19 pieces.

The recommended amount of sugar for the average adult male is about 35g of sugar per day, and the average adult female at about 25g of sugar per day. This isn’t a more is better kinda thing.

That means that the average adult male will have fulfilled their total recommended sugar intake for that day in about 24 pieces of candy corn, and women even less at about 17 pieces (not even a full serving).

And if you are a candy corn lover and you tend to polish off the whole bag, and daily recommendations are just recommendations to you… for perspective, the average 18oz bag of candy corn contains 364g of sugar… that’s like eating around 90 cubes of sugar in one little yellow, orange, and white bag.

Now, we aren’t saying that you should suddenly drop this American fall favorite tradition because of this. Here at Natural Fit Therapy we simply want everyone to make informed decisions with their health. So, if you are a candy corn lover and this is your jive, enjoy them! We just recommend having a little less than usual. Tis the season after all!
