5 Easy Ways to Feel Better and Move Freely!

Hi there!

You might think that what shows up on your MRI or X-ray is causing your pain, but that might not be the case. Even if your results show things like disc bulges, arthritis, or joint problems, there’s good news: you can still be pain-free! As a physical therapist, I’ve found that for many folks, the main issues are stiff joints and tight muscles.

Let’s keep it simple. When your muscles are tight, they can’t be strong, and that makes you feel stiff and weak. Often, this happens because we spend too much time sitting or lying down. But don’t worry, I’m here to help you feel better without needing lots of time or fancy equipment.

Move Freely

Here are 5 easy ways to loosen up and feel better throughout your day:

1. Stand Up Once Per Hour

Think of your body like a pond. If water sits still, mold starts to grow. Similarly, sitting for too long makes your body stiffen up because your muscles and joints don’t get enough movement. So, every hour, stand up tall, stretch your arms and chest, and take some deep breaths. It’s like giving your body a little wake-up call!

2. Move at Meals

If the idea of a long workout feels overwhelming, try this instead: after you eat, spend just 5 minutes moving around. You can do simple stretches or dance to your favorite song. Just move your body in any way that feels good! Doing this after meals not only helps with stiffness but also aids digestion.

3. Keep Your Joints Moving

It’s important to keep your heart pumping and your joints moving. Activities like walking, biking, or swimming help flush out toxins and bring healing nutrients to your muscles and joints. Start with just 5-10 minutes a day and gradually increase to 30 minutes. If pain is holding you back, don’t hesitate to reach out to one of our physical therapists.

4. Listen to Your Body

Weight training emerges as a stalwart defender against bone weakening and age-related muscle loss. Unveil the power of Progressive Resistance Training (PRT) and witness the transformation in strength over time.

5. Stay Consistent

Consistency is key when it comes to improving your mobility and reducing stiffness. Try to incorporate these simple movements into your daily routine regularly. Whether it’s standing up once an hour, moving after meals, or taking a short walk, the more you do it, the better you’ll feel over time. Set small, achievable goals for yourself and celebrate your progress along the way. Remember, every little bit of movement counts towards your overall well-being.
